Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) is the capital district of Kerala stateis a beautiful city built on several hills. The famous Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu is the land mark of this city. The district is bounded by the western ghats on the east and north, the fertile Kanniyakumari on the south and the Arabian sea on the west. Thiruvananthapuram Tourism Spots

Aruvikkara

It is both a pilgrim centre and a picnic spot. On the banks of the Karamana river, this spot houses a Bhagavathy temple with a water fall nearby. A Stream with fishes which come up to be fed by visitors is another attraction.

Kanakakunnu Palace

One of the most beautiful buildings in Trivandrum, this palace and its sprawling grounds are today the venue for many cultural meets. The Museum building is an architectural splendor. The Napier museum, the natural history museum, the reptile house and the Shri Chitra Art Gallery are in the same complex amidst a well laid out garden and park.

Kovalam

Located 16 km south of Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) city, Kovalam is a world-famous beach resort, which has been a favorite spot for tourists since 1930s. This beach has lovely coconut palms fringe the golden sands. Foreigners throng Ayurvedic parlors, yoga and meditation centers, that have sprung up all over the place. Kovalam Beach consists of three successive small crescent beaches; the southern most known as Lighthouse Beach, is where most of the visitors spend their time. The middle beach is called Hawah. Each morning this beach acts as a base for the local fisherman. The northern most beach, Samudra, is least affected of all by the changing times. It is dotted with few rudimentary wooden fishing vessels. The palm-fringed bays of Kovalam in secluded coconut groves, promise a relaxed stay. The unforgettable image of Kovalam is that of the coconut-palms-lined high rock promontory that cuddles the calm and wide expanse of the blue waters.

Nehru childrens museum

Established in 1980,the museum displays a vast range of objects. On view are dolls, both traditional and from all over the world. There is also a mini aquarium within the museum.

Neyyar Dam

Neyyar Dam is a popular picnic sport with a lake and a picturesque dam site. Neyyar has some of the rarest medicinal herbs in Kerala. The lake formed by the dam across the Neyyar river is the bluest of blue, making boating irresistible for tourists.

Ponmudi

Ponmudi is hill resort situated just 54km from Thiruvananthapuram, is an enchanting one for tourists. It is just one and a half hour's road journey from Trivandrum. The main attractions at Ponmudi are Orchids and Deer Park which is only 3 kilometers away from the Ponmudi resort.

Science and Technology Museum

It is located near the mascot hotel. It offers an idea of the growth of Science and Technology in our country. It is of great educative value for students.

Sree Padhmanabhaswamy temple

Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, this temple has a large complex with a huge gopuram and a tank for ritual bathing.

Sri Chitra Art Gallery

It is situated to the North of Napier museum and has an excellent collection of Indian art with examples from early to modern schools. Paintings by Raja Ravi Varma and works from Mughal and Rajput miniature paintings and Tanjore paintings embellished with semi- precious stones are displayed. There is a Zoo and Aquarium nearby.

The Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary

The Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary of which the dam is a part is the habitat of over a hundred rare species of fauna including elephants, wild buffaloes, wild boar, porcupines, tigers and a variety of snakes. A crocodile breeding centre and a lion safari park are also located in the dam site.

Varkkallai

Varkkallai is located 45 kms from Thiruvananthapuram city is an important hindu pilgrimage center. Varkkallai is known for Papasnanam Beach and 2000 years old Sree Janardhana Swamy Temple. Sivagiri is also the final resting place of Sree Narayana Guru, the great social reformer.

Veli Lagoon

An exciting place for picnics, the Veli Tourist Village is built near the Veli lagoon fringed with greenery and easily accessible by road. Veli is located 8 kms from Thiruvananthapuram city. The village provides an excellent atmosphere for relaxing. A beautifully landscaped garden and facilities for swimming, boating, etc, on the placid waters of the lake attract hundreds of visitors everyday.
